Resources for writers, editors, teachers, and students

Our knowledge about writing comes from reading books. For the Tameri Guide for Writers, we consult books on the English language, grammar, and writing. There is always a new book waiting to be discovered so we can improve this website. Somtimes books offer conflicting advice, so we do our best to find majority opinions.

Sources Used for Tameri.com

The sources we have consulted for the Tameri Guide for Writers are organized within the following categories:

We update this list when we add citations to any page within the Tameri Guide for Writers. We have attempted to link titles and ISBNs to Amazon for visitors interested in buying these books. Not every book title is a link, due to the common names of some titles. For works with common titles, such as Grammar, try the Amazon links.

We recognize that we have older versions of some texts, and it simply makes little sense to update every book we own with each new edition. For most books, our “Amazon” links on this page connect to the current version instead the specific version listed. However, for scholars and others interested, the ISBN links search for the edition we used while drafting content for the Tameri Guide.

Creative Writing

Most books on creative writing leave much to be desired; they are often too simplistic and laden with clichés about the craft. We have mined these works for their best suggestions — and then we’ve added our own ideas to the Tameri Guide for Writers. No text can match the value of reading and writing on a regular basis.

Editing, Style, and Usage

After drafting any text, editing is an essential part of the writing process. Some authors revise while editing, others prefer to edit, revise, and then edit again. The books listed here will help with the editing phase no matter when you prefer to scrub the text for errors. Some texts in this list also appear in our Grammar and Mechanics sources.
